3. 国内外研究现状
before themasterpiece metaphors we live by was published in 1980, many scholarsinfluenced by aristotle traditionally thought metaphor as a rhetoric anddecorative language. since lakoff puts forward conceptual metaphor, a consensusthat metaphor is a way of thinking has been reached among the scholars. generallyspeaking, conceptual metaphor can be studied from two broad perspectives—thetraditional view and the cognitive view.
from thetraditional view, metaphor is defined as a poetic language expression.aristotle, who first studied metaphor systematically, announced his contrastiveview in ancient greece, believing that metaphor was just a way to convey thesame meaning with one expression replacing another. and quintilian publishedsubstitution view that metaphor was a rhetorical device using one word tosubstitute for another. richards(1936) who put forward interaction theory, thought metaphor relied on the interaction of thinking instead of a phenomenonof language substitution, and later black(1962) elaborated this theory, whichcan be seen as the rudiments of cognitive study of metaphor.
